Uranium spot is reacting

Uranium this month is reacting.

A $4-plus rise in the energy metal’s spot price (to $46 per pound) has pushed almost everything in the uranium equity market higher. Precisely three years ago, uranium at $140 a pound) started its shedding act.

Reasons for the reaction: 60 nuclear plants under construction: China, Russia, India, Argentina, even the USA. Brokerage analysts and metals mavens see $55 uranium in the next two years. (Best recent research: Bloomberg.)

Forum Uranium (TSX: V.FDC, Stock Forum), Mantra Resources (TSX: T.MRL, Stock Forum), Stephen Stanley’s Hathor Exploration (TSX: V.HAT, Stock Forum) and many others, almost all traded in Canada, have enjoyed one-week price gains of 20%. Some much more. (We here at home purchased about $75,000 worth of Hathor three weeks ago. The company is drilling in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin.)

From our Ticker Trax service comes this: a merchant bank, Sheldon Inwentash’s Pine Tree Capital (TSX: T.PNP, Stock Forum), is a back-door into Hathor and possibly Mega Uranium (TSX: T.MGA, Stock Forum) Mr. Inwentash is CEO of Mega. One uranium stock that has yet to move much: Ross Beaty’s Blue Sky Uranium (TSX: V.BSK, Stock Forum).

Hathor’s Stanley, CEO, tells David Pescod in Canada, “The Athabasca Basin has the highest grade uranium deposits in the world. In the rest of the world a high-grade uranium deposit is 1% and in the Athabasca Basin it is 20%. If we can deliver a high-grade deposit (at Roughrider) at the same time as the uranium market takes off ...”

On the obscure end of the uranium equity formula, several companies have their drills running. Ucore Rare Metals (TSX: V.UCU, Stock Forum) at $30 million market worth can point to as much as 11 million pounds of uranium in the ground at a past producing mine, I am told. The company is active in Nova Scotia and Alaska.

Geothermal and silver/copper pioneer Ross Beaty tells me from a California hideaway this week that as an investor, he knows he is rolling the dice with Blue Sky Uranium (TSX: V.BSK, Stock Forum), which is active in South America. “This is a speculative exploration bet that they will find a big new belt of uranium in Argentina. So far results have been mediocre after some great initial results. The bloom is off the rose but the rose is not dead; a lot more will be done in the next few months,” says Mr. Beaty.

My crowd of investors (Ticker Trax feeders) cite Forum Uranium as dirt-cheap. This is Hathor's partner at Henday. The 10-cent company will drill beneath Mallen Lake this winter.

Others include TINY Fission Energy (TSX: V.FIS, Stock Forum), also active in the high-grade Athabasca Basin. On the big side of the uranium market-cap scale, Australia’s Extract Resources (TSX: T.EXT, Stock Forum) is active in Namibia.

  • MORE:Properties I have visited and are on my tracking list for possible investor exploration for Ticker Trax include Timberline Resources (AMEX: TLR, Stock Forum) and (TSX: V.TBR, Stock Forum) in Montana. Lately, we have been examining activity in Colombia – gold prospectors such as Mercer Gold (OTC:BB: MRGP, Stock Forum), Batero (TSX: V.BAT, Stock Forum) and privately-held Gran Colombia among them. I hope to examine Timberline in a report sometime soon after a visit to the Montana operation. I also hope to participate in Serafino Iacono’s Gran Colombia at some point as an investor. I do not own any of the companies in this paragraph.

NEW ORLEANS: This autumn I will be making two or three appearances outside of prospect tours. One of them is in New Orleans, where I appear each year at Brien Lundin’s New Orleans Investment Conference.

If you’d like to join our Stockhouse and Ticker Trax audience at the late-October show, please register and pay up at this link: REGISTER FOR NEW ORLEANS. You get a discount on the price at that address. And I have something special planned for New Orleans. It’s my favorite investment show.

Ticker Trax is in place because its fiscal loyalty is to subscribers who are looking for radically cheap investments. Our service, started in November 2008, researches a select group of Planetary Prospects with legitimate shots at rising 1,000 percent or more in the span of two years, maybe less and maybe more.

  • We hope you out there in the Stockhouse audience consider joining our expanding service, now in its 19th month. It is at www.tickertrax.com. Needy wanna-be subscribers can petition Stockhouse with a plea and a suggested price for the $399 service at members@stockhouse.com. The service is thriving amid a gloomy summer for natural resources stocks.
