Guiding speculative gold prospectors that have hit pay dirt

Natural resources backers are sweating it out this garbage week whilst metals operators keep on keeping on.

That’s the gist of it. This week I have talked to a good dozen operators, among them doctor-geologist Quinton Hennigh at Evolving Gold (TSX: T.EVG, Stock Forum) and other ventures in Ontario, Australia and eastern Europe; Brad Cooke at Canarc Resources (TSX: T.CCM, Stock Forum) and Caza Gold (TSX: V.CZY, Stock Forum); John Carter at Trueclaim Exploration (TSX: V.TRM, Stock Forum) in Ontario; Thomas Klein at Golden Phoenix Minerals (OTC:BB: GPXM, Stock Forum); Luis Saenz at Chile lithium prospector Li3 Energy; doctor-geologist and resources asset manager Paul Zweng; wild man Bob Moriarty … and even the folks who run the paragraph factory, among the best of them in investment relations and capital markets, Cliff Mastricola at Torrey Hills Capital in Del Mar, Calif.

I have chatted with operators, financiers and investors in gold, iron ore, silver, coal, tellurium, tantalum, scandium, molybdenum, lithium, platinum, cobalt, tungsten. Philippine gold, Egyptian gold. Uranium in the Athabasca Basin. Copper in Chile and Colombia and Peru.Click to enlarge

Their activities this garbage week for natural resources are crystal-clear reflections of what they were doing last week and last month and last quarter and last year. They are all riding their crazy horses, looking for blue sky as they bombard Travelocity and Hotwire.com for hotel and air reservations to far-flung corners of The Yukon, Mali, Mozambique, Colombia, Rwanda, Ghana, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, eastern Europe and yeah, even Nevada in the USA.

Dr. Hennigh (pictured here) is the Newmont-trained geologist whose consulting hand is guiding Gold Canyon Resources (TSX: V.GCU, Stock Forum), Evolving Gold (TSX: T.EVG, Stock Forum) in Nevada/Wyoming and a handful of other speculative gold prospectors that have hit pay dirt. Dr. Quinton Hennigh’s great-great grandfather beat his tail to Colorado in 1859 to search for gold; Quinton still calls that USA state his home.

He pushes no envelopes

What’s it like, chasing gold properties across three or four continents at the same time? Hot wired? “Well I just got back from Australia, but it’s not like I am signing invoices and checking pay stubs. We put teams in place that know their rocks in their own backyards, and I am there to make it easier for them to create wealth,” he tells me from Denver.

Click to enlargeRobert J. Moriarty is the longtime prospector, writer at his www.321gold.com and gold stalwart/zealot who streams ideas and in some cases, properties, to Dr. Hennigh. I’ve known Bob Moriarty (and his gold-loving and sensible wife) for at least a decade now, and NO ONE in my world beats his enthusiasm for early-stage gold prospecting and resources investing. (Photo: Bob, at right, and me at Mineral Ridge in Nevada)

“Quinton is very, very good, maybe the best in the business,” Bob says. He can handle a lot and still remain focused. Quinton is the best in the business bar none. If he is involved in a deal, I would want a piece. He was begging me to buy GCU at 25 cents (Canadian).”

Quinton Hennigh right now is assisting Interra Exploration (TSX: V.ITA.P, Stock Forum), which will become Simba Gold shortly. “Very rich gold play in Rwanda. Now drilling. I think it will see 75 meters of three grams (gold) average hole. Giant potential,” says Mr. Moriarty, a Vietnam fighter pilot who is based these days on Grand Cayman Island and no longer sports a pony tail.

Nevada runners

As our Ticker Trax audience knows, I like Nevada these days and have been spending most of the autumn and early winter poking around companies such as Golden Phoenix Minerals (OTC:BB: GPXM, Stock Forum) at Mineral Ridge, La Quinta Resources (TSX: V.LAQ, Stock Forum) at its early stage Easter Project and others. The Carlin Trend, Rain District, Comstock Trend and other mineralized regions in the state account for about 80 percent of all USA gold. Lots of silver, too. We have some select free coverage via Stockhouse.

The occasional free reports go to our Stockhouse audience and include on-site visits to Gold Standard’s (TSX: V.GV, Stock Forum) Railroad Project near the Rain District and Carlin Trends of Nevada, just within naked-eyesight of an Evolving Gold drill rig. The free coverage also includes reports on Golden Phoenix Minerals at Mineral Ridge in Silver Peak, Nevada; and La Quinta Resources at its Easter and Blackjack projects in the so-called Silver State. I own none of these companies’ shares but know that our Ticker Trax subscribers are following expected drill results from Gold Standard and possible reports from Golden Phoenix on its activities in Nevada, Peru and Ontario (Shining Tree District).
