Resource equities: I am misty in the headlights as steep declines wash us all to historic lows this week.

TCR subscribers ask what to sell and I have to tell them, 'Almost impossible for me to sell for tax losses or for psychic reasons. I tend to buy fear and sell confidence.' Still, our paying subscribers have a real-time and private headline feed called Tradables -- with some winners these days.

That said, I am adding to names that are mostly outside natural resources: Sysorex Global (OTO: SYRX, Stock Forum), BioCryst Pharma (NASDAQ: BCRX, Stock Forum), Natcore Tech (TSX: V.NXT, Stock Forum). Mandalay Resources (TSX: MND, Stock Forum) -- with a mine in Sweden -- has a 3.3 percent dividend, and I own it.

I continue to hold the remainder of my Bitterroot Resources (TSX: V.BTT, Stock Forum). I own all of the Xtra-Gold Resources (TSX: XTG, Stock Forum) I believe I ever have bought -- Ghana prospector and alluvial miner; alas, its shares are whipped into the red iron-laden dirt of that west Africa nation. I continue to hold Colt Resources (TSX: V.GTP, Stock Forum), one of our TCR 5, even in the face of my own criticism of the Portugal and Middle East dealmaker and prospector -- Never Say Never is the best I can do on that one. And yes, I feel the portfolio pain.

My holdings list at Stockhouse.com is current but does not show amounts. I am I have to say fortunate to have divested my True Gold Mining (TSX: V.TGM, Stock Forum)(Burkina Faso) weeks ago -- before all heck broke loose there in the west Africa nation this week. See: www.thomcalandra.com for more on that.

BUY FEAR: I see some seriously heavy tax loss selling today (Friday) in many of the Colombia names, including Continental Gold (TSX: CNL, Stock Forum), which has one of the highest-grade gold and silver-veined mines in the world. So if it's not a purchase here at $1.50 CAD, when will it be? Another possible bargain down there in Santos-land, Colombia: Ian Slater's Red Eagle Mining (TSX: V.RD, Stock Forum) -- all-time low and Liberty Metals of Boston owns some of it. I nothing else during this resources washout, I can say I trust Ian Slater at Red Eagle -- a chartered accountant who wears big hats and tells the truth; and the entire team at Continental Gold, which is working overtime to get its Buritica mine built right outside Medellin, Colombia, as it works hand in hand with the coffee growers and subsistence miners there.

From direct sources:Western Lithium (TSX: WLC, Stock Forum) is out marketing -- or just about to market -- its Nevada narrative in Europe; next week is Jessica Levental's Precious Metals Summit in Zurich, followed by the annual gold show in Munich. .... Nice Napa, California, breakfast this week with Richard Andrews of Lynden Energy (TSX: V.LVL, Stock Forum), the Texas Permian Basin oil producer and vast property holder. He is headed to Europe as well.

BREEDERS' CUP AT SANTA ANITA RACETRACK: I will watch from afar here via broadcast in Bel-Tiburon -- thoroughbred racing, two days of it. It is in Pasadena, California. Something like 14 world championships on turf, dirt and all distances, and 13 of them are official Breeders' Cup Races.

I went through the Racing Form -- must be the finest collection of race horses ever for a meet. Certainly the priciest.

My handicaps, or choices, in their respective races, some of which have $2 million and $3 million purses:

FRIDAY -- Startup Nation and Ojaila.

SATURDAY -- Ageless (first entry), Judy The Beauty, No Nay Never, Bakken & in the Biggest Race Of The Day -- California Chrome.
