The Calandra Report: The backside of one man's ruffled resources

?LOS ANGELES -- I created TCR's Ruffled Resources basket of commodity equities 14 months ago?.

?I knew the miners and explorers were on the verge of spectacular fortune.?

?My customized fund is down 51 percent since then.

?If Motif Investing had permitted pink-sheet tickers and non-USA equities, such as Pilot Gold (Nevada, Turkey), Colt Resources (Portugal, Balochistan, Africa)?, or Ivanhoe Mines (RSA South Africa, DRC Congo), Ruffled Resources would ?be down 70 percent.

To use an idiot-cliche, the upside is enormous.

I recently slimmed the number of names (companies) to 13 from 18. The basket is rising 2.3 percent Monday.

If TCR Ruffled Resources fails to kick in the upside, all of our paying TCR? subscribers have permission to kick me in the backside.

Motif Investing eventually will belong to Schwab, eTrade or one of the online investment services. The service is colorful, computational, connective socially -- and the commissions appear to be the cheapest stock ones out there. Even when you rejigger a portfolio.

The new kids on the trading bloc, young investors, love it. Motif got its start in San Mateo, California, close to where we created the original MarketWatch.com in 1996.

T?he links are here. I just put more cash into the Ruffled Resources pudding here.

If you sleep easily, please take a look.

? ?TCR's Ruffled Resources

Natural resources are in the dirt, literally.. Gold, platimum prospectors, coal, copper and silver producers, uranium explorers -- all in a 4 1/2-year funk. Thom Calandra of thomcalandra.comdesigned this high-risk Motif; it contains cash-needy operators that do business mostly outside the USA.

?Notes: TCR family, we are still growing. Welcome to new subscribers from (where else?) northern Canada, and from Arizona, India, Florida and western Africa.? ... I'll be looking at centuries-old silver mines in Zacatecas, Mexico, with the team from Canarc Resources. Brad Cooke of Endeavour Silver chairs Canarc. ... Immunovaccine (IMV in Canada and IMMVF in USA) will have another volley of data -- clinical and economic -- in coming days or weeks. ... I seek any anecdotal information about a start-up in California: Applied Silver.... Finally, congratulations to the folks at InvestX in Canada for sticking with their crowd-funding biz. The tiny market maker has some big names among its offerings for individuals, including Uber, Lyft and Spotify. Dare we hope one day that it gets a piece of the $10 billion private data engineer, Palintir Technologies.
