Great Panther: CEO Expects Big Gains

  • Peramivir: Patience (BCRX)
  • Animas: Price move ahead (ANI)
  • Stockhouse: Accelerating media/TC style

Great Panther Resources (TSX: T.GPR, Stock Forum), a Planetary Prospect, is rising sharply since its $12.5 million raise a week or so ago. In San Francisco, CEO Robert Archer told me he expects the shares to outpace other silver companies in Mexico in the wake of a previous financing.

Bob Archer sees the financings of companies as factors in the short-selling that can take place by brokers and others as they lock in profits against their newly-purchased placements. “Our volumes in the past two months have more or less doubled to 700,000 shares. That tells me we have activity where people are covering their sales in order to own the stock again.”

On the reality side of Great Panther’s Mexico ops, Archer says total cash costs are down to $5.48 a share. In addition, he updated the development of good to very good silver grades at Topia, one of two Mexico mines. Bob Archer says we will see a stream of transactions by mid-sized companies seeking Mexico silver juniors in coming months. Like all Mexico miners, Mr. Archer is looking for prospects and has been for well more than two years … “but negotiations in Mexico are never easy.”

We here at Ticker Trax expect Great Panther’s shares to start approaching the per-ounce valuations of some of the leading silver miners in North America. Paper will match rock, in this case. Of late, Planetary Prospect Endeavour Silver (EDR and EXK) has outpaced most silver shares listed in Canada in respect to price gains. Congratulations to both.

Two weeks ago, at Pediment Gold (TSX: T.PEZ, Stock Forum) in Baja and on the Mexico mainland, Mel Herdrick let slip his M-M&A forecast -- that's Mexico Manic Acquisitions. (Note: Several of these paragraphs appeared a week ago in Ticker Trax.)

"I think all heck breaks loose here, the silvers, the golds, the base M's," Mr. Mel (photo below) told me as we strode across Pediment's San Antonio Project on Mexico's Baja California peninsula. "If you have good will with the people who own the property rights and the water rights in this country, you're pretty much good to go."

More? "I am surprised it took so long for Goldcorp (NYSE: GG, Stock Forum) to take out Canplats - they were the obvious candidate. So yes I do expect more deals in the gold and silver space," Canadian CEO Bradford Cooke of Endeavour Silver (TSX: T.EDR, Stock Forum) told me a week ago.

Brad’s Mexico silver producer is itching to purchase l‘argent, too. He has been for a year. Endeavour Silver seeks to fortify its silver output in Durango state and Guanajuato state.

Mexico Manic Acquisitions (M-M&A) "are taking longer to consummate than one would expect, probably because the sellers don't want to leave anything on the table," Brad Cooke says as he and 500 other geo-CEOs keep one eye peeled to the Stockhouse ticker that shows the spot prices of silver, gold, copper, silica, iron ore.

I'll be reporting masaboutthe Mexico efforts of Pediment Gold and others, such as John Carlesso's and Grant Hall's tiny Oremex Resources (TSX: V.ORM, Stock Forum) in Durango state. Also: Paramount Gold (TSX: T.PZG, Stock Forum) and Animas Resources (TSX: V.ANI, Stock Forum).

Click to enlargeOn Animas Resources, I am keeping my fingers crossed for drill results that could show an entire and proprietary gold district in Mexico. Those results might be here as soon as next week. There are no guarantees on this one, as I have yet to see the properties. Still, and as reported, I intend to purchase shares as a speculative action … but have yet to do so.

None of these are Planetary Prospects … as we here at Ticker Trax are attempting to cover 11 of ‘em. We might be adding one or two more by year’s end.

BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: BCRX, Stock Forum) soon will see its antiviral influenza treatment peramivir reach shores other than those of the USA and Japan. (Please see:Stockhouse exclusive article.)

What follows is an excerpt from a well-known newsletter writer who shares our belief that BioCryst is a valid drug discovery company with life-saving solutions for influenza, leukemia and other auto-immune diseases. The excerpt addresses the short-selling of BioCryst shares. Recently, I was contacted by my own broker, who was seeking to pay me an interest rate for the privilege of lending them to others. This has happened to me only one other time, with Solexa, which was subsequently purchased by Illumina (NASDAQ: ILMN, Stock Forum) several years ago.

Here is the excerpt: BCRX is now on the “fails to deliver” SHO list, which is a sure sign (it is) being targeted by the naked shortsellers. Before the recent offering, my subscribers were getting e-mails… offering interest (payments) if they would lend their shares to the shortsellers. But the SEC will not reveal the names of those who have failed to deliver, saying it would interfere with “proprietary trading strategies.” Those strategies are illegal on their face, yet every time there is an effort to reform this rule or the 5% reporting rule, it dies deep inside the SEC. Some of the most flagrant naked shorts, like Rocker Partners and Pequot Capital have finally been shut down, but it is only recently that the SEC appears to be interested in SAC Capital, the defendant in the Biovail case ….

I now own 65,000 shares of BioCryst and expect the H1N1 virus to continue to ravage poorly-prepared nations such as Ukraine.

Questions about our 11 Planetary Prospects? Feel free to call or slog me: thom.calandra at stockhouse.com. I have great interest right now in exploring several nations -- Ghana, Mexico, Peru and my beloved Colombia. They are all primed. I am headed to Colombia and Peru in a week.

I will be celebrating Thanksgiving in America this week but am always at the ready for subscribers. You know how to reach me. I also am headed into an accelerated media development plan at Stockhouse, the publisher of this newsletter. More on that later.
