Nueva California in Peru: Focus Ventures

  • New Prospect: Colombian Gold Mines (CMJ)
  • Onto Fortuna … after Machu Picchu
  • Inter-Citic Minerals shoots higher (ICI)

HUARAZ, Peru – This is the same valley where, in 1971, 85,000 people died in an earthquake that measured almost 8.0 on the Richter scale.

Flying over the Cordillera Blanca, you hardly know anything occurred – until Mark Slauenwhite, VP of Exploration for Focus Ventures (TSX: V.FCV, Stock Forum), points to a cemetery on a hill. About a hundred people from the village below trekked up to the cemetery to see the earthquake-bumped avalanche, rolling its way down these tall mountains.

They were spared. Some 35,000 people in the village of Yuntay died that day.

I shall be reporting on Focus Ventures and the massive tonnage gold mine it envisions in this part of central Peru in coming days. Simon Ridgway and his team see wealth stemming from frayed maps and transforming into mag and resistivity swaths of hot red metal.

Several Planetary Prospects of this service (12 exist) are receiving fresh respect this week. The latest one is Colombia Mines (TSX: V.CMJ, Stock Forum).

Inter-Citic Minerals (TSX: T.ICI, Stock Forum), after revealing a potent (step-out) drill hole at Dachang in eastern China, is finally shedding its 70-cent past with authority. CEO Jim Moore and back from China, discussing a potential partnership with a China miner/prospector. I will have further information as it arrives. (We repeat this paragraph from last week’s report.)

Questions Click to enlargeabout our 11 Planetary Prospects? Feel free to call or slog me: thom.calandra at stockhouse.com. I have great interest right now in exploring several nations -- Ghana, Mexico, Peru, Haiti, Indonesia and my beloved Colombia, where I am planning to spend a great deal of time the next two years. They are all primed. I am in Peru this week after having toured Nueva California with Gwen Preston of Northern Miner and Louis James of Casey Research. On to Fortuna Silver (TSX: V.FVI, Stock Forum) next .

(All photos by Thom Calandra. Thom owns shares of our 11 Planetary Prospects and will be seeking to purchase CMJ soon.)
