Air Canada (TSX:AC) has revealed the addition of three new live TV sports channels for its in-flight entertainment system.

The company stated in a news release that the move comes just in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, making Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet East available immediately, while TVA Sports will be available in May.

The addition of the live TV sports channels means Air Canada customers can watch the NHL playoffs onboard select flights.

“We are extremely excited, as the only Canadian airline with live TV, to show the Stanley Cup Playoffs onboard. These new channels further cement our dedication to Canada’s game,” John Moody, managing director of onboard products at Air Canada, said in a statement.

Live TV is presently available on select domestic and transborder routes operated with a live TV-enabled aircraft. Live TV is currently available on its 100 Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A330, Airbus A321 and Airbus A220 aircraft.

Live TV on Air Canada flights is available as part of the airline’s complimentary and extensive in-flight entertainment programming, featuring more than 1,400 hours of movies, 1,900 hours of television shows and more than 600 hours of music and podcasts.

Air Canada is Canada’s largest airline and a founding member of Star Alliance, a comprehensive air transportation network. Air Canada provides scheduled service directly to more than 180 airports in Canada and the United States and to six continents internationally.

Shares of Air Canada are up 0.20 per cent to C$19.62 as of 12:42 pm ET.
