BRUSSELS, BELGIUM and SAO PAULO, BRAZIL--(Marketwired - Oct. 22, 2013) - WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE:WBC) (www.wabco-auto.com), a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, will showcase WABCO's suite of advanced technologies that improve the efficiency of trucks, buses and trailers. A truck equipped with all of WABCO's environmentally friendly technologies can improve fuel economy by more than 10 percent, which also significantly reduces emissions and lowers total operating costs over the lifetime of a vehicle.
WABCO's exhibit will be at FENATRAN 2013, the commercial vehicle industry's largest trade show in South America, which will be held in São Paulo from October 28 to November 1.
WABCO's technology breakthroughs increase fuel efficiency, optimize energy recovery and reduce weight. For example, WABCO's c-comp™ clutchable air compression technology optimally disengages a truck or bus compressor from the engine when air delivery is not needed. WABCO's FuelGuard™, a new generation of electronic air processing unit, intelligently monitors the vehicle's driving conditions for efficient energy recuperation in the vehicle's overrun phases. Together, they enable fuel savings up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons) annually on long-haul applications while reducing carbon dioxide emissions up to 2,600 kilograms (5,700 pounds).
In addition, WABCO's electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS) consumes less air than conventional systems and replaces aluminum with light-weight plastic to house valves, which further improves fuel economy.
"At FENATRAN 2013, we will showcase WABCO's world of green solutions that help to make commercial vehicles more efficient and with less environmental impact, further differentiating WABCO as the brand of choice across South America, and particularly in Brazil with its increasing concern for optimizing fuel cost," said Reynaldo Contreira, WABCO South America Business Leader. "WABCO remains committed to satisfy the needs of fleets, transport operators, and truck, bus and trailer makers in South America, as we further enable vehicle efficiency while boosting fuel economy."
Other WABCO technologies that address vehicle efficiency include the industry award-winning OptiDrive™, an automated manual transmission system, which improves fuel economy up to 5 percent; adaptive cruise control (ACC); compact air processing units; two-stage, electrically driven and high-output compressors; electronic tire pressure monitoring systems; and integrated pedal units, among other innovations.
WABCO is South America's market leader for ABS, electronic stability control (ESC), conventional brake systems, air management systems, transmission automation controls and other safety and efficiency technologies. Established in 1980 and headquartered in Sumaré, near São Paulo, WABCO South America also serves as a major hub in the manufacturing and sales network of WABCO worldwide.
