I have no current position but am wondering why when offered $18 now you would rather vote no and possibly never see $18 again

that is the least logical thought pattern I have ever heard, so you will hold a play for another 5 years hoping to get to $18 or higher rather than take the $18 and deploy the capital elsewhere  the only reason anyone trades/invests is for money
