Disappointing
Would be nice to see the SP rally a bit in anticipation of earnings on Monday, especially considering that the tsx is setting record highs on a daily basis. It seems the market is not expecting good results.

investors are expecting a small writedown based on the recent news so the pessimistic reaction is expected. maybe the management will put some lipstick on this pig and then we may see a surprise positive reaction.

I expect it to be in the tens of millions. They are pretty agreessive in writing off delinquencies. Either way - the headline will scream losses and the retailers will react. At this time it is priced for another 3-4 partners failing already but will not matter much till the tide turns and the weak hands are gone.

It would be nice if they would just clean the slate and write down aggressively. Waiting years for the stink to clear is not the way to treat your shareholders.

Cannot write down unless they are certain of no recovery. But you are right - would be nice if you take a one time hit and start fresh instead of getting pounded all the time (on good news or bad news - does not matter). This has become a very very long term hold for most unless you are one of the traders getting in and out and we seem to have attracted a fair bunch.

Miners write things down all the time, then turn around and process what they just wrote off. I can name one miner that is doing just that - they wrote-off an oxidised stockpile in Q2 and low and behold they were processing it in Q3. I think the term "hold" needs to be widened. Alaris is a long, long-term "Stuck Holding" kind of stock.

It would be nice to put the SMI group fiasco behind them and write it all off just so it doesn't hang over the stock for any more time. But if my numbers are right that means writing off somewhere around $60 million in one shot. I don't see them doing this even if it was acceptable from an accounting standpoint. Monthly dividend earned again today from yesterday. Very solid trader.

I expect from how I have read it all that there has been more than enoough of writedown. If anything traders may be relieved and the SP could go up.
