Aphria Inc. APHA

Aphria, which is headquartered in Ontario, produces and sells medicinal and recreational cannabis. The company operates through retail and wholesale channels in Canada and internationally. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 countries outside of Canada. However, it does not have exposure to the U.S. CBD or THC markets due to the constraints of federal prohibition. It has some U.S. exposure through the acquisition of SweetWater, a craft brewer

Key points from Irwin's Bloomberg interview

Key points from Irwin's Bloomberg interview

1. “I have a great familiarity with the U.S., and I think we can do it on our own today,” he said. Hain counted major retailers like Whole Foods, Amazon.com Inc. and Walmart Inc. among its biggest customers.

2. “I think it’s important for us to get our plan in place, not just be reactionary but really understand what we need a third party for,” he said. “It shouldn’t be just about money because we can go out there and raise all the money we want, but who can help us with product development, who can help us with distribution, who can help us with international?”

3. He said he believes Aphria can shake off its recent problems to become a successful player in the global cannabis industry. The company is not currently looking for a new CEO, and won’t be until Simon feels the company has “stabilized,” he said.
