Writedowns LATAM

I'm long.

I heard this was the reason a deal with a european pharmaceutical giant went south.

If true, let's hope it was risk of a potential write down vs an actual one pending. The class action is still before the court and the value of LATAM assets is being discussed. To do another write down now is not great optics in my opinion. I am hoping that given that Avanti came with the Nuuvera deal, and Avanti is our processing centre to move goods to Germany, that this helps with the value ...more

Matt Bottomley Canaccord Genuity Corp I want to go back, Carl, to some of your commentary with respect to the lack of write-offs and impairments and that's something that obviously has been challenging in sector wide with a lot of downward surprises by many of your peers. So just curious maybe potential future risks of impairments, just given how much capacity is out there. Carl Merton ...more

Savage, I believe that quote is in reference to inventory write downs. I don't believe that we have that problem at this point. LATAM assets Irwin had said previously that they "didn't expect' further write downs on LATAM. I hope this holds true. I still think with law suit long, it would not be great to write down. What Irwin said previously a about this: Just recently, SOL Global Investments Corp., the company linked to DeFrancesco that sold the LATAM assets to Aphria, claimed in its recent quarterly report that it had made as much as $150 million from selling the shares of Aphria it had acquired in the deal. So heres where I come back and tell you that the LATAM purchase was before me, Simon said, when ...more

I can't give you a lot of details without outing my sources since there are only a limited amount of people that have this information. Basically this pharma company knows the latin market very well. During merger talks the analysts viewed the LATAM assets and from what I heard they were close to Grecos number. I have no exact number ... I'm long and didn't want this to be true, but ...more

Grego said they were worthless, so his numbers don't make sense. An independant committee reviewed and felt we slightly overpaid and a write down already happened. I don't expect another one given the current court case is ongoing.
