'Layering' which is putting in orders without the intent to fill or execute them - illegal - and companies like swiftrade were shutdown because of this practice... it's always interesting to see asks pulled down after being there for a while... and if you were a money manager - or an institution - you would be shopping big orders within your contacts - not ensuring the public saw a wall of asks... what would the point be to put asks out and keep the price down if you were actually intending to exit the position?... I wish regulators would look more closely at this.... but that is the only manipulation that occurs outside of insider trading - that i have seen - that could be better handled - and thus creating more trust in the venture exchange....
