Importance of Starfish and RE: Research Capital moLets carry this a step further. If an accident was severe enough to totaly sever a portion of a network with battery power it will automatically reconfigure itself to function on its own. The rescue centre will be able to pinpoint what area is isolated and will most likely also be able to deduce from this know where the main accident/collapse has occured. Knowing where the knocked out portion of the network is they will also be able to assess if it is possible to drill a small diameter hole into an open cavity of the isolated portion of the mine that now is invisible (non responding nodes) If I remember correctly this is exactly what happened in Utah disaster, they just drilled guessing where the miners might be. Now imagine that you can lower an antena or hard wired node through the hole to reestablish communication with the rest of the isolated nodes. This would be a relatively quick and easy way to get all nodes and communication back on. The advantage is that the drill hole does not have to be accurately drilled to where the trapped miners might be. Such factors as smallest depth, softer rock would be more important to get the job done quickly and it is those operational factors that would take precedence in this scenario. Once communications is reestablished ACT would do the rest providing communications with the miners and their location. I love it.
