RE: Modern Chinamax Port
RE: Modern Chinamax Port ...."“A self-unloading laker with a capacity of about 30,000 tonnes runs back and forth from the Port of Sept-Ile to a larger vessel in the Gulf of St.awrence L, which is arguably $6-$8 per tonne in additional costs,” he says of Cliff’s transshipment methods. “It’s a big colossal waste of money for Cliffs and just an example of how inadequate the current capacity is.”......
In Cliffs September, 2012 website presentation page 14 give a breakdown of how Cliffs expects to get from $95 cash cost per tonne currently to $63 in the future. Transhipping is listed as one of the items and indicates a $3 per tonne saving is expected.
Does this mean that trasshipping from laker to larger ship is $3 per tonne. If so this is less than half of that in the quote above.
Of course this is only a Power Point style presentation and no detail is given - do they hope to cut the $3 by eliminating transhipping or do they expect to cut the cost of transhipping itself by $3?
