FUTURE OF WABUSH'S  SCULLY MINE IN DOUBT

Employees with Wabush Mines were called to a meeting with managers to discuss the future of the town's Scully Mine Tuesday afternoon.

But sources have told CBC that the closure or idling of Canada's third largest iron ore mine is a possibility.

An estimated 400 people work at the mine and concentrator in Wabush.

A spokesperson for parent company Cliffs Resources confirms managers met with employees to discuss "the future of Eastern Canada operations," but wouldn't go into specifics.

CBC News has reporters outside the mine's gates awaiting word on the outcome of Tuesday's meeting.

More to come
