My personal opinion? I think FC and crew are not wanting to go down in history as losers. The man is characterized as a buffoon, a charlatan, a con, etc.
I believe he is a proud man that has made some mistakes. Rather than piece this together and report out bits and pieces here and there (as a normal company would) he is bending the convention and just going to splash into the world scene. It's not going to require the largest deposit on earth. If we hit between 5 to 7M oz, it will be an accomplishment worthy of global media.
So far, the PR has not worked out to his favor. He is not giving second chances. Those that have mocked him will pay with all of their credibility.
