In Wells snow is done sometime in July. Mines in these areas run through the winter. Roads are actually better in the winter. It's the April breakup (frost leaving the ground) that is the worst time to use a road. Highways will lower the road weights allowed so as to not ruin a road. That's when the loggers take their vacations. In a mine it is a busy time to constantly repair roads.
