Cry harder! No dividend in a commodity stock is ever safe. One looks at the value of the underlying assets. One looks at the projections for the commodity price. One looks at the management team. And then, one assesses what the appropriate price for a commodity stock should be. If it's a "safe dividend" which you're looking for, then seek out a blue-chip utility stock.

Sorry to say that , No dividend in a commodity stock is ever safe and the worst side of that is No investment in a commodity stock is ever safe.
