7.55% dividend

When will the banks start slashing their dividends? Yes i have been told that they won't cut dividends  but at 7.55% its getting into REIT territory.

It has been decades since one of the big 5 Canadian banks served up a dividend cut. National Bank cut in 1992. Laurentian Bank more recently. But the big 5 made it through the mess in the 1980s, the 2008 crisis and the peak of the pandemic without reducing dividends. BMO's yield was briefly 10% in the credit crisis. I bought some. I wish I had bought more.

Banks are solid...there will be no divvy cuts. You are letting your emotions drive your investment decisions....dont do this. Relax and ride this through.

I'll buy 10,000 shares right after the new CEO does the same. No insider buying from what I can see.

BNS though is being run by a non-bbanker and if 2024 net incomes are similar to 2023, you could be seeing BNS & CM hitting a second consecutive year where payout ratio is 10 to 15% above targeted ratios.
