HVI compared to XIV

HVI compared to XIV
Just really looking into HVI for the first time here. As far as Inverse volatility ETFs go this one has a noticable difference from that of XIV or SVXY for that matter. What stands out to me is that initial pull back in HVI happened on Aug 3rd whereas similar etfs of this nature on other markets did not react this way untill the Flash Crash on August 20/21.
Can someone here familiar with HVI explain to me how HIV was so early to anticipate the VIX spike? Looking at the chart it seems like HVI was not inversly following the VIX at that time -
So how was this possible?
