Contra_Man please help us understand your statement in simple English, did you buy 5 board lots (500 shares) at 2.17? what does o/w stand for? and what is 25/15 Inventory allocation? I am guessing you want to accumulate 2500 or 25000 units of HVI but so far you have accumulated 1500 or 15000? Thanks
Comment by Contra_Man on Feb 20, 2018 1:40pm
hi contra, what do you mean re: units, when you posted "Buying three (3) units of HOU-T after selling out all of our HOD-T." i am not familiar with this expression. thanks, hope all is well. AT. Excellent question AT.  Units are logarithmic trading patterns we use to either SELL or BUY falling knifes typically.  Each unit is defined as exactly one board lot, or 100 shares, if ...more
Comment by LongGuy on Feb 21, 2018 5:41pm
I've never seen it described like that.  Usually I just say I bought 1300 shares at x price.  I see the units on my buy or sell order but that's about it.  Why do you relay the info that way?  What value does it add posting it that way?  Just curious...that's all.  cheers.  LongGuy

Fair question, so the reason is before the age of the "Fed's ETF reverse stuffing quant dialed markets", we used to leg into the security almost one buy per day unless big moves, for ten trading days straight, all in order to achieve a dollar cost-averaged adjusted cost base (ACB) for ten positions. However, now in these times of working under the rules of a "Fed Dial" ...more

So contraman any goals on a price target of when to sell hvi? To hold till forever?
Comment by Contra_Man on Feb 22, 2018 11:11am
Target prices are not calculated, or pre-meditated as that very important trigger factor depends on near-time data we use as technical and sentiment input considerations.  Therefore, we simply apply a running -11.52% trailing "on close" stop-loss being applied to each filled order so they are triggered at different points of a risk-controlled loss.  Gains run, losses ...more

That is a whole mouth full of info.  I had to idea...still scratching my head try to figure it all out.  This really is a much different beast than I am use to trading.  Thanks for the info.  LongGuy

So basically always have a stop limit strategy of when to get out but in terms of selling its very noise dependant on the news. Do you think it would be a good idea for a long term hold for HVI since historically the trend is up in the long run? I think the hardest part of all this ETF is when is a good time to get out because it is always tempting to go back in, in case the prices go up again.
Comment by LongGuy on Feb 22, 2018 11:48am
So it's pretty much unrealistic to have long term price targets from what I gather so far.  Pretty much a daily trader based on market sentiment/noise, media, politics, etc.  Trade at your own risk for a lack of words would be safe to say.  LongGuy

Contra man you are buying more inventory?? Even after the messages from yesterday? Would you be able to explain to us the rationale to buying more at this time and value? Thank you. Your comment is much appreciated

Today's closing price is $2.20 NAV is $2.19 The fund manager's warning related to a scenario where the price becomes "unhinged" from the NAV, i.e. is significantly higher than the NAV, incorporating a premium valuation not supported by the underlying asset, i.e. the fund's cash holdings. As of today, with HVI, that is not the case. Google TVIX 2012 for an old example of a ...more
