summary from the BHP report
summary from the BHP reportThe following summary has been extrapolated from full detailed report prepared for BHP Billiton Minerals Exploration (NYSE: BHP), by Dr. Per Michaelson,
Four very prospective areas have been identified within the report and it has been recommended that:
· The use of the FALCON [airborne survey] is also strongly recommended here, however, this study has identified enough encouraging data to proceed with drilling as soon as practically possible.
· Initial drilling of 20 x 500 m deep holes, five in each target area, is strongly recommended to commence as soon as possible.
The potential for intersecting substantial coal reserves at Navtgar Uul is considered here to be very high based on the following facts:
· Navtgar Uul area may indeed contain at least one Tavan Tolgoi style syncline with multiple thick coal seams
· These four Late Permian target areas at Navtgar Uul are considered here to represent a large multi-seam resource possible of coking grades similar to Tavan Tolgoi.
· At least one of the seams should be in the order of 9 m, but could be much more substantial
· In 1978 one selected hole was drilled (7609) by the government in the Nalikh depression 2 – 6 km to the east of the Navtgar Uul area … This hole intersected a 9 m thick coal seam. Based on this seam a Russian resource classification 3 was given to the area.
