It seems odd that they are fixing any damage done, but are still drilling and exploring.  Wouldn't this be something that is done when a company either finishes mining a property, or finishes exploring a property?Why fix something, that might be an open pit at some point down the road?

Could be that their original contract didn't cover the damage to all the trees and they are acting in good faith so that the land owners would be more favourable to selling their surface rights when the time comes.
