They got richer and more agressive and looked abroad for more conquests.Their local State and Federal Government instilled in the peoples minds they would accomplish more by working harder at it . "BUT" in doing this they began to loose their focus fairness and GREED over took them; slowly and sure.
I would imagine the mind set would be like a sicopathic killed having commited his first crime and got away with it just has this insatiable derire to need to do it again and again. We do see this in the activity of some wild animals such as wolves ; cougers; bears; and even sharks.
