Huge short interest6.95MM shares short as of Nov 15 - after months of no shorts and years of desultory 100-200K short positions. Looks like some were betting big that Canaguay was gonna be a duster. I guess if the Lower Mirador hadn't come in, they'd be smiling ear to ear with a fat score.
That said, they got caught big time. I'm sure that's the reason for the continued selling from one House - TD Sec - to try and cover as low as possible. It's a fine line they are running - if they wait too long to sell and good news from the Upper Mirador comes out, they'll be cooked. I presume they took some losses and covered some of their shorts. But not enough volume to cover them all since the discovery announcement, even if they were the only buyers.
