The future

I laugh at all these polliticians saying go green buy the electric car. What brain dead world are they from, yes it's nice to go green and yes we have to cut our carbon emmissions fast. But electric cars as the mode, not going to happen. Let's look at the problem with electric cars. First the infarstructure needed based on every family having an electric car. At present most houses have a 100 amp service that is likely close to being maxed out. Now add a charging system like the tesla system that needs 75 amps to charge, ops I guess every house is going to need a service upgrade at a cost of 8 grand and then add the cost of the tesla charging system another 8 grand. Oh but now we look at the power supplier, they will have to upgrade each and every transformer on each and every block, oh and now they have to upsize their transmission lines to a much larger size to carry the add current required. Oh and where are you going to get those transformers by the millions. We have all seen those transformers in the newer subdivisions, those little green inclosures. Well those little green boxes will change in size to the size of someones bedroom. At present the power supplier have the ability to supply only 3 houses on a city block any more than that and they have to change their service. How do I know this. I am a retired electrician, the last 25 years of my working life was building these oil mega projects in alberta mostly as a super and the last five years designing switch yards for an engineering company. One last little comment, if we all switch to electric cars what happens to all this govenment gas taxes they have piled onto a liter of gas. Where is the loss of that income going to come from.

And here is the biggest issue of going electric, where are you going to get the hundreds of thousands of electricians in Canada to do all this work and the tens of thousands of linemen to change all these transmission lines, substations and switch yards. Everything has to be upsized and to top it all off where is the labour going to come from to build a hundred site "c" dams or the ...more
