RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Approvals Couple of factors here:
1. Abbott have ramped up already since they have FDA clearance. Therefore, they can make a decent quantity available immediately to ease some political pressure.
2. Sona have not ramped up yet because they need a green light first (FDA or HC) if they are being managed prudently. No doubt they're manufacturing kits but not to scale yet.
3. Most of Abbott's supply is spoken for in the US. The US government bought this so they come first always.
4. Canada will purchase kits from multiple sources. Abbott is one source and convenient right now for the reasons above. I believe this was confirmed earlier today.
5. Demand will be huge here. We're on the path to rapid tests being used as the main screening tool to keep the economy open, to keep planes full, to keep work places open with fewer disruptions. The full shut down will be a final resort now. Economies need to stay open from now on.
6. Don't be so focused on one test over another. It's not a concern right now. Personally, I think Sona has a very user friendly and slick test. I don't like the Abbott fold over test very much and I think there are too many steps.
