Curious why they released that news at the end of the day without a halt. Personally I think a Nasdaq listing is huge news. Could we be in store for a halt in the morning. With a sales agreement!!

Finding money what do you think of TORR open tomorrow?
Comment by lumpy13 on Jul 08, 2020 9:23pm
It's more common to release news after hours so the market has time to digest the info before trading the next day.   I don't see why there should be a halt tomorrow as an actual agreement with Nasdaq should take a while. The Nasdaq listing is good news as it will increase the market of investors for SONA.

After trading hours NR is fine. Many, if not most material NRs (eg quarterly financial releases) are done after trading hours. If the company or exchange thinks that major news could leak out or some people have unfair advantage, then they may do trading halt.

No problem, you can buy and sell from either exchange. You can have tfsa-Canadian dollar account and tfsa-US dollar account. My recommendation....if you have tfsa-cdn $ account, then buy with ticker SONA-CSE because you will buy in canadian $. There are no US$ conversions. If you have US$ in tfsa-US dollar account, then buy from Nasdaq using the Sona ticker. Again, you won't be making any ...more

Your equity should grow.  I'am also new to investing. But not doing my own taxes. Unless there has been VERY recent changes, you are free to trade and profit (or my technique, lose. Lol) on the NASDAQ and you are covered.  Gotta love the TFSA!

I'm very sure that nothing negative will come from it IF and WHEN it happens. You are subject to a 15% tax on USA listed company dividends if I remember correctly, however, capital gains from share price appreciation is totally fine on all North American exchanges within your TFSA I believe. Cheers!

I ask my bank and my tax accountant the same question when I started and they gave me the same answer. You will not get taxed on your tfsa investments as long as it's not a investment in a US company that pays a dividend. I also heard that the CRA might tax you if your a daytrader but I'm not a 100% sure about this. I also read that if you invest in companies that are not publicly list on ...more

Just clarifying some of the points I made in my post. If your a daytrader and you use this tactic for income and you have made X amount of trades per quarter (I believe the number to be 30 plus trades) you might get taxed on that profit. Also if you invest in companies that are not listed on any publicly traded exchanges and you make a ridiculous amount of profit (say you invest 30k and made a ...more
