Was the article dated 2020? I've seen many report's and articles recently that this is top priority right now in the democratic controlled Senate. Even if the votes are split VP Kamila Harris is the tie break vote who said herself some sort of MJ reform WILL happen this year...

right now SAFE is a stand alone bill but could easily be passed on its own or merged and passed as a package with other reform bills such as MORE this year.
