A very quiet week for Tocvan Ventures.

A very quiet week for Tocvan Ventures.
Tocvan traded only 190,000 shares this week as investors waited for the drilling program to start. I am not that surprised that there hasn't been an announcement about drilling, it takes time to get everything together. I am certainly not making excuses, but I sure would have liked drilling to have started by now. Let's see what happens over the next few weeks.

There isn't much to talk about this week, except to say that as far as I know, nothing has materially changed.

As my dad said, "nothing ever happens on time, if that was so, there wouldn't be any surprises".

My dad wasn't always right, but he was very successful at understanding the long-term dynamics of the stock market. This was of course before the days of the internet, cell phones, and cheap commissions. I remember the commissions to buy and sell just 10,000 shares above a dollar would have cost me well over $200 for both the buy and sell. This would make one think long and hard before buying or selling anything. Trying to front run a stock or time a trade just wasn't done because it cost too much. I remember looking at my trades for the year, the commissions I paid were astronomical.

Later, there were small trading rooms attached to brokerages with one or two terminals. When you wanted to execute a trade, one just had to walk across the hall and contact a trader. Everyone would leave work at noon and rush over to the trading room where a crowd was huddled around a few terminals talking about and trading different stocks. It was a great place to pick up stock tips.

Today the trading room is online, and one never knows who they are talking with. I sure miss the good old days. At the close we would go out for drinks, the big winner would always buy drinks and cigars!!!!!!!! If we all lost, we would drink even more and smoke less.

The world has changed today, with everyone wanting instant satisfaction, from getting your fast food from McDonalds to dirt cheap commissions below $10. Buying and selling stocks have become a daily exercise for some, hence the proliferation of the day trader.

My dad was a very disciplined trader, not influenced by the small day-to-day rumors, but rather always looking at the big picture. It's all about timing, I believe Tocvan's timing is getting better and better, but we do need the drills to start turning.
