Yes I know that beenthere.. but you didn't completely explain the rest of the story.. 
I've had 3 companies in the past spin off shares in a new company and in most cases its a 1 for 1 offering or sometimes a 1 for 2.. but the ratio can vary... 
I've had 2 done at 1 for 1... and one done at 1 for 10 but that was after share consolidation of 10 for 1 so in reality it still was a 1 for 1 stock divi..
Just thought I'd shed a little light on it as I've been though it 3 times already..
