Good arguments chrisale, and I agree Raven will not produce 100% coking coal, but the majority of it will.

 

In comparison to Quinsam which I believe is 100% thermal coal production and has been approved for further mining additional resources just recently, we can argue the effect of the end-product, just like oil/gas, the oil sands, mining for REE's etc, but what can we say, even clean energy has negative effect on our environment.

 

At the moment, Raven is moving towards obtaining an EA approval from the Province for mining, not for the end use of their product.  There's lots that needs to be done to reduce the effects on climate change, but stopping Raven isn't going to put even a dent on total effect.

 

As for using Charcoal to produce steel, I'm not sure but isn't most charcoal produced from heating wood?  Maybe that would be even worse for the environment, IMO.  atb
