often repeated little trades are computer programed purchases , designed to get the quantity desired without disrupting the market either way , the program has a name and i forget what it is , but generally banks, institutions etc use it alot..

I beleive you may be refering to HFT or High frequncy trading which type of algorithmic trading, M8. 2fast
