From Rare Earth to Miners

Yesterday I mentioned that the holiday trading theme was rare-earthmetals. That theme is continuing today, but many of those stocks arevery extended now. The themes that are catching fire today are silver,gold, base metals and rare metals.I've sold down most of my rare-earth plays and am staying focused on avariety of other metals. I mentioned Hecla Mining and Endeavour Silversilver plays in my prior post. There aren't a lot of pure silver plays,but Agco and Golden Minerals are also of interest.Horsehead Holding is the most interesting base metal play I see, and I'malso playing a very small name, Crosshair Exploration and Mining, whichmines a rare metal called vanadium, which is used in steel thatrequires high tensile strength, such as that used in nuclear furnacesand bridges.
