aquiring ippI talk to Herm (our cfo) on occassion and he gave me a rundown of how Harp and Mengi got together. Bottom line is that the 2 hit it off quite well mostly because of all the time Harp has spent in Tanz. the last bunch of years. Harp has always been a schmoozer of the highest sort, that combined with his lay of the land and his ability to relate to Tanz. people supposedly won Mr. Mengi over. There were higher bidders with cash offers but my understanding is that Mr. Mengi has big dreams of how he wants to help his people and his ability to do that is greatly enhanced by taking a big stake in a company with unlimited potential rather than a one time cash buyout. Now if Barrick wants to come sniffing around after we've proven something up --well maybe that might be an offer worth listening to.(At least from my perspective as an investor)
As a sidenote-I've been very impressed with Herm from the first time I talked to him over a year ago. Hes always willing to pick up the phone and he's never blown smoke up my --- I'm sure he's always willing to talk to any of us as long as he's not on a deadline of sorts.
