Delisting

Can a stock remain halted forever?  Is there a certain amount of time that it can remain halted before it is automatically delisted?  I've held this in my TFSA forever and can't claim capital losses to it but I'm wondering if it will every be removed from by account and the glaring red negative value.  I would have figured that since they haven't filed anything in years and seem to basicaly no longer existe (other than blank website) that they would not be a company anymore and wouldn't be on the exchange.  Has there ever been a case where a company has sat halted for many years and come back in any form to allow trading (and getting any value out of selling vs total loss)?
