SAN FRANCISCO , Jan. 4, 2011 (RISI) - Canfor Pulp informed customersacross Asia that it would increase prices on northern bleached softwoodkraft (NBSK) pulp by $10/tonne, effective Jan. 1 until further notice,RISI has learned.

That's funny.  Up 13% and no posts.  It is obvious that the holders of this company are pretty reluctant to let their shares go.  In order to accumulate a measly 500k shares (out of 130M), price popped 13% on no company specific news.   Shareholders know it is worth a lot more.  They spent more than $5./share just buying their mills 5-10 years ago.  Currently ...more

You never know exactly why a stock moves when it does, when there is no news.  The obvious answer is that there were more buyers than sellers, but WHY is the question.1. End of Tax Loss selling2. Pulp pricing rose sharply from very depressed pricing in 2008/2009 to gained back all those NBSK declines by early to mid 2010 and then, as global pulp supplies came back online it was then expected ...more

Hmmm.....Domtar among producers raising January NBSK pulp prices in ChinaSAN FRANCISCO , Jan. 5,2011 (RISI) - Domtar informed customers in China that it would increaseprices on northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp by $10/tonne,effective January 1 until further notice, industry contacts told RISI.

I hope everyone reading this is keeping up with changes in the NBSK pricing.  The direction of the next trend seems pretty obvious.  NBSK is the single largest factor affecting the success or failure of a pulp company (but I guess that is or should be obvious).
