OT: RE: Brotherm1... me tooooo CussyCussy - If you've not already, you might want to get the date and time - time if possible - of the exchanges in writing. My broker is trying to do this for me. You would think there would be a law stating they must give this information in writing. I've been keeping the US/Canadian daily exchange rates for at least the past week on my desk (highs and lows, openings and closing prices). There is probably a website somewhere, or an agency at least, that keeps these daily records.
I need to get this transaction in writing to be certain it was done properly, and I also believe I need to get it in writing to show the IRS what my actual proceeds are (if there are any fees, I would think they could be deducted from your net proceeds on some type of IRS form).
The first call I made to my discount broker I was told that they have no paper records and that it was all just done electronically. They were only able to give me the phone number of the transfer company. I called the transfer company and all they found was a lump sum of various people's accounts sent to Scottrade (and no detail of client names or accounts). I then called Scottrade's customer service and talked to someone stating he is sending an email to the Scottrade "reorg" department that deals in reorganizations (mergers, acquisitions,. etc....). Said they will get back to me with an answer to my request of something in writing regarding the date, time, and exchange rate. I'll keep you posted.
