Mortgage Fraudsters

Mortgage Fraudstershttps://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2008/07/07/daily26.html

Seven people have been indicted on charges connected to more than $10 million in fraudulent mortgages for properties in Broward County.

According to the complaint, Anthony Dehaney, Andrea Dehaney, Howard Gaines, Marcia Mestre, Beverly Ireland, Angela Manalasay and Dawna Grant conspired to submit fraudulent mortgage application and documents to lenders.

The complaint says Anthony Dehaney was the leader of the scheme, which used the names of the straw buyers, duped individuals or corporations he controlled on mortgage applications and created bank accounts in their names. After the property had been sold, it was quit-claimed to Dehaney and he rented the properties out, according to the complaint.

Gaines operated Your Title Choice in Fort Lauderdale as an escrow and closing/settlement agent for mortgage lenders. He is accused of, among other things, accepting checks from entities he knew were controlled by Dehaney as escrow for purchases he knew Dehaney had no interest in as a buyer or seller.
