The commission also approved a zoning variance to allow K. Hovnanian Homes to build on 18 lots it is purchasing in the former Alta Estates subdivision.

In a March 15 letter to the city, K. Hovnanian Homes said the company is set to purchase an additional 18 lots within the next 45 days.

Schlosser told commissioners that the zoning has changed since the subdivision was made in 2006. He added that allowing the company to use the same designs it is using in a nearby area makes sense and that the homes will be consistent with the neighborhood.

Commissioners agreed and voted unanimously to approve the variance.
