OT - .A .P .U etc.

OT - .A .P .U etc.Can one of my Canadian (or more knowledgable American) friends tell me what significance the .A, .P, .U, etc. has in some Canadian issues? It seems to me that the .U's may be trusts but I can't figure the others out. Are they regulatory symbols for companies that are new or out of compliance? TIA
