RE: RE: Pointe Noir facilities

RE: RE: Pointe Noir facilitiesThere are several companies besides Xstrata looking at the rail export infrastructure, DMC among them. It would be wise to be sceptical of the name plate capacity figures for that line--the rail bed is in terrible shape and the rail operator, state owned CFCO, is a mess. I rode that line from Brazzaville last year -- it is a barely functioning ramshackle service. One indicator of how bad is that most freight for Brazzaville either goes from Pointe Noire by air (!) or is transited through DR Congo to Kinshasa and across the river to Brazzaville, via their own (dysfunctional) port and rail line. Any high volume bulk traffic would need a major upgrade and a change in management control -- both years away, if ever. I would not be banking on this as a revenue stream for MAg's port facilities.
