RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: NML in a Positive I understand that the pipeline system would be equipped with draw points and associated holding vats such that the slurry can be released from the pipeline through a draw point and into a holding vat should an emergency arise.
I guess a shipment can freeze all winter in a holding vat and be re-introduced to the pipeline when fairer conditions permit.
Another point on pipeline transport we don't hear much about is the liklihood of transporting iron ore slurry for others in the area in much the same way as QSN&L does now - Capex Ventures, Champion, LIM, New Millennium and others have promising taconite ground in NW Labrador / Quebec.
I spoke briefly with D. Journeaux at a conference once. He indicated that plugs to separate ore shipments is a completely viable possibility with pipeline transportation. This would obviously permit multi-company shipments assuming the capacity on the line exists.
If this were able to work just think what it will do to establish an enviable spot on the industry cost curve for these taconite projects. Rail - about $15-$16 per tonne. Pipeline perhaps $3-$5 per tonne.
