US PCIF Tax Status

I'm new to the board and am wondering if there's been previious discussion as to what US tax filers think about the PFIC status of NETZ.  On the company's website they take what's becoming a common exit out the backdoor by many non-US domiciled companies saying they don't know and don't intend to find out whether or not the IRS will consider it a PFIC.  At least many companies that put the disclaimer on their websites provide the necessary numbers to investors should anyone of them want to file the paperwork.  NETZ says, "U.S. shareholders should be aware that there are no assurances that Carbon Streaming will provide a PFIC Annual Information Statement for its current taxable year or future taxable years," which is less than helpful.  I've been caught in a PFIC trap once and, once burned, twice shy, as they say.

I sent NETZ a message about 10 days ago asking their PFIC statement intentions for US investors but did not receive a reply.

I'm not surprised that you haven't heard from them.  They come right out and say on the Tax section of their website that they're not going to address it.  That said, when they get listed on a major US exchange, they'll probably change their tune.  Even then, however, if they're like a lot of other Canadian domiciled companies, it won't necessarily be a clear ...more
