There is a simple strategy to re-organize the portfolio to a more balanced liquids (oil and NGL) to NG weighting and focus the attention on a smaller number of the highest IRR plays. The transition to this strategy has only just begun and they already made a major aquisition and have a lot (and will have more) of flexibility to decide what to do with all the money they will have available to do a share buy-back, make another aquisition or eventually even increase the dividend. Any company can be the target of an aquirer but rarely do all the assets of a company the size of Encana fit the portfolio strategy of a purchaser so that is why it is often done in pieces as Encana is currently engaged in.
As the strategy is implemented the financial situation will continue to get stronger along with the share price.
