Lots of Canadian Banks/Analysts trying to make it fail
This is a crisis of profit for Canadian banks, so you'll see Canadian analyst after analyst talking about how bad an idea this is, or it doesn't accomplish anything...they are trying to keep the next Canadian energy company from moving their HQ down South.
No more consulting, advisory, debt and stock issue fees...they don't want Ovintiv to suceed.
Stupid new name or not, Ovintiv will have lower taxes, and a much broader and deeper pool of capital to draw from, and can eventually sell all their Canadian assets off at the next market high.
Current Encana shareholders will make a mint from these prices, although now the swan dive of Encana's share price over the past few months makes a lot more sense.
