I would suggest a “good bet” rather than an investment is more
appropriate terminology unless you have a large number of similar investments
and accept that a certain % of them will implode. If we get a
fair deal from a big pharmaceutical company then we become
an investment. But until then we trade at the whim of a few

You're right, it's closer to gamling than investing, but that blurred line is well known to all. I followed PLI years ago, so have been watching for sometime (years). You're also right that is doomed without a turaround in the front office (deal, financing, PL resignation etc). I am, however, pretty sanguine on this roll of the dice. You'll have to add me to the pumper pile for now, but have lost fortunes before so I'm not blind. *pom poms on*
