Walter Aduviri: on April 29 will continue trial against him by the 'aimarazo'

The morning of Monday began the oral trial against the regional governor of Puno, Walter Aduviri Calisaya, for the alleged offense against public tranquility-riots in grievance of the State, during the revolt called the 'aimarazo', in May 2011. Also, it was arranged that the trial continue next Monday 29.

The hearing was held in the Criminal Module 1 of the Superior Court of Justice of Puno and was chaired by Judge Kety Neyra Caldern. Judges Reyna Luza Cceres and Shirlay Flores Menendez also participated.

Prosecutor Juan Monzon Mamani, of the First Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office of Puno, acted as prosecutor in the trial.
Meanwhile, Aduviri attended the hearing accompanied by his legal defender Joseph Trujillo Challhuanca.

At the beginning of the trial, Judge Neyra Calderon consulted the governor if he pleaded guilty to the charges against him, which he denied and said that he reserved his statements for the end of the trial.

At the hearing on Monday, which began at 9:30 a.m., eight witnesses of the 79 participated, who must give their testimony during the entire process. The audience lasted until approximately 2 p.m. The oral trial will continue on Monday, the 29th, at 8:30 a.m.

As it is remembered, the regional authority was condemned by the Puno court to 7 years of effective prison, nevertheless, it presented an appeal of cassation which was declared founded by the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court.

The Permanent Criminal Chamber declared the cassation appeal well founded due to the non-observance of procedural precept and breach of the guarantee of motivation incurred by the sentence issued by the Criminal Appeals Chamber of Puno on December 29, 2017.

The supreme court clarified that the disposition was the realization of a new trial on first instance in charge of another collegiate.

juanPeru, Do you have any idea how long Aduviri's trial might last before there is a final verdict? Thanks.

Good question, thanks for asking, I should have elaborated more on that point. Although it's hard to predict times, I assume this trial will last as much as the previous one; if that it's the case, then we would have a final verdict in about a year: 03/13/2017: Aduviri's first trial began (1). Prosecutor requested 28 years in prison, 21 years for the crime of aggravated ...more

Juan, can you fill me in on the details with Aduviri and the relationship with PLU?
Comment by juanPeru on Apr 25, 2019 12:01pm
Of course. Aduviri is the regional governor of Puno, where all PLU's claims are located. Since directing "Aymarazo" violent riots against Bear Creek' Santa Ana project he has been considered an anti-mining leader in Peru, and in fact the rumours of his election as Puno regional governor exerted downward pressure on PLU sp in the months previous to the election (October 7th, 2018) ...more
