There is an air of excitement and optimism among communities on the BaieVerte Peninsula regarding a boost for the local economy. Rambler Metals andMining has spent about $85 million, including $35 million this year, to bring acopper-gold mine into production. The company's vice-president of corporatedevelopment, Peter Mercer, says the plan is to start processing before the endof this year.

The mine employs 130 people, plus the spin off jobs arehaving a big impact on the region. An additional 200 jobs were created duringconstruction of the mine site.

Mercer says Rambler has an excellentworking relationship with communities in the region, and they all pulledtogether to make the project a reality. He credits president George Ogilvie withplaying a major leadership role in bringing the mine from an exploration phaseinto the production phase.
